Sync Shift Exhibition

Getting ready for install…

Sync Shift was developed as part of Órla Bates solo exhibition at Wexford Arts Centre, Wexford, Ireland https://www.wexfordartscentre.ie/sync-shift/. We were funded by Art Links Ireland for our recent residency at Blackbird Cultur Lab https://www.blackbirdcultur-lab.com/. We asked how our respective drawn lines intersected, meshed and phased into and out of each other. We created encounters on paper in Sync Shift. Inspired by the musical composition Canto Ostinato by Simeon ten Holt, we explored how we could possibly capture the durational and temporal conditions of this, how we would choreograph a drawing, and how we would create a relational drawing space that was at once felt, chance and drawing all in one. We found that the pleasure in drawing is not just in the aesthetics of line but in the drawn encounter.  Large scale drawings and a film were exhibited at the lovely Wexford Arts Centre with curator Ann Malrooney and Visual Arts Manager Catherine Bowe.

Wexford Arts Centre offered a shared space for Joanna and Órla to draw together in situ between the columns of the Arts Centre and were filmed by Crannog Media https://crannogmedia.com/ for an upcoming film piece to be produced in 2026.
